One thing we should tell you up front.

Sizes vary slightly between printers.

The book industry hasn't agreed on a single set of sizes. LAOUTS' 8.3″ square is Mixbook's 8.5″ square is Artifact Uprising's 8″ square. They're all "around 8 inches" — but not identical. The LAOUTS engine handles this for you: when you choose a printer, we re-render the export to match their exact trim. Your design proportions stay identical — only the absolute size shifts by 3–5%.

Matte paper renders darker.

Artifact Uprising prints on Mohawk matte. Beautiful, but matte paper absorbs more light than the screen suggests — finished books print noticeably darker than your LAOUTS preview. If you're planning to print with AU, drop your monitor brightness to 50% before approving the design. The engine has a one-click "Preview for matte paper" toggle that does this for you.
